Settings optimized for low-light, live music, street photography, and environmental portraits. These decisions reflect a RAW-only workflow with all processing in Lightroom Classic.
| Setting | Value | Rationale |

| Metering | Highlight-weighted | Protects highlights in backlit/stage situations |
| Shutter type | EFCS | Less vibration; no banding under artificial lights |
| Vignette control | Off | Apply in Lightroom with more control |
| Auto distortion control | Off | Lightroom lens profiles handle this |
| Setting | Value | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Auto ISO sensitivity control | Off | Full manual control; camera won't override |
| Setting | Value | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| VR mode | Normal | Sport for panning; Off on tripod |
| Setting | Value | Rationale |
|---|---|---|

| Setting | Value | Rationale |
|---|---|---|

Cycle with DISP button.
| Setting | Value | Rationale |
|---|---|---|

The histogram is based on the embedded JPEG preview, not the RAW data. It lies about your actual dynamic range.
A histogram screaming "underexposed" might show exactly what you wanted—a dark room with points of light. The RAW has stops of headroom the histogram doesn't show. Trust your eye. Use blinkies (highlight warning) to see actual clipping.
"Histograms are not eyes. Histograms aren't going to look at your compositions, eyes will."
| Setting | Value | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Highlights (blinkies) | Enabled | Shows blown areas on review |
Cycle display modes during playback to see blinkies view.
| Setting | Value | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Time zone and date | Kentucky, EST | DST is manual—on in March, off in November |
| Distance units | Feet | Think in feet, display in feet |
| Airplane mode | Off | Leave radios on unless needed |
| Setting | Value | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| SD card role | Overflow | Backup throttles to SD speed; overflow keeps CFexpress performance |
| Setting | Value | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| ML-L7 Bluetooth remote | Paired | Network → Wireless remote (ML-L7) options → Save wireless remote controller |
Note: The grayed-out WR menu is for radio remotes (WR-R10/R11), not Bluetooth.
Save your most common setups to the mode dial. Context switch becomes a dial click.
Changed via i menu—tap i, find AF-area mode icon, select.
Auto-area scans the whole frame, prioritizes faces/eyes. With multiple faces, picks closest/largest—tap joystick to cycle between subjects, or tap screen if touch AF is enabled.
When using manual focus, shows what's sharp in the viewfinder. Red or white highlight, medium sensitivity.
Consider short duration (2-4 sec) or off. Chimping breaks flow and drains battery.
